Deputy Chief Charles “Chuck” Cinnamo serves as the Deputy Chief of Police for the Anaheim Police Department, bringing nearly three decades of law enforcement leadership and a strong foundation in public safety operations to the role.
A native of Southern California, Deputy Chief Cinnamo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocational Education from San Diego State University. He also earned two Associate of Science degrees from Cuyamaca College in Computer Technology and Electronics Technology.
Before entering law enforcement, Deputy Chief Cinnamo worked for the San Diego Unified School District as an Instructional Aide, teaching math to special education students. This experience shaped his approach to mentorship and leadership.
He began his law enforcement career in 1996 with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, graduating from the Corrections Academy. Later that same year, he attended the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute at Miramar College to become a Deputy Sheriff. Over his tenure with the Sheriff's Department, he served in various assignments and rose through the ranks from Corrections Deputy to Assistant Sheriff.
His early assignments included working in corrections at the Central Detention Facility and San Diego Central Jail, including jail administration and training. As a Deputy Sheriff, he served in patrol in communities such as Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, Imperial Beach, and Bonita, and later transitioned into investigative roles, including service as a School Resource Officer and area investigator.
As a Sergeant and Lieutenant, he held supervisory and management assignments in patrol, traffic, investigations, community-oriented policing, and weapons training. Upon promotion to Captain, he led operations at the Communication Center, oversaw Property and Evidence, and served as “Chief of Police” for the Vista Station. He then commanded the department’s Narcotics and Gangs Division.
As Commander and later Assistant Sheriff, Deputy Chief Cinnamo provided executive oversight to major functional areas of the Sheriff’s Department, including Centralized Investigations, the Regional Crime Lab, Jail Medical Services, Jail Investigations, and the Sheriff’s Transportation Detail.
In 2024, he joined the Anaheim Police Department as Deputy Chief of Police, continuing his commitment to professional excellence, collaboration, and innovation in public safety.
Deputy Chief Cinnamo is a graduate of several premier law enforcement leadership programs, including the FBI National Academy (Session 253), the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police, and California POST’s Supervisor School, Management Course, and Executive Development Course. He also graduated from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Drug Unit Commanders Academy.
He is an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), the California Police Chiefs Association (CPCA), the California Peace Officers’ Association (CPOA), and the Retired Deputy Sheriff’s Association of San Diego County.
