Projects We Support

Anaheim Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center Initiative

  • Every day, officers encounter criminals in various settings. Each individual and place has a relevant history, and crime rates and trends vary by geographic area. With the rise of private and public cameras and license plate readers, more criminal activity is captured as it occurs.

  • This data is stored in multiple public and private databases. Without immediate access, police personnel are hard-pressed to make the quick connections and deductions necessary for effective policing. The Real Time Crime Center consolidates all this information in one place, providing officers in the field with crucial data instantaneously.

  • Over the last year, the Anaheim Police Department Foundation has raised over $150,000 to help support this important project for the Anaheim Police Department.

Anaheim Police Department’s Train to Serve Program

  • In law enforcement, 95% of a police officer's training, from the academy throughout their career, concentrates on the Mind and Body

  • The Mind encompasses learning policies, procedures, laws, etc., while the Body involves the physical aspects of policing such as arresting suspects, firearms training, taser use, baton skills, and driving techniques; skills that require regular practice to maintain.

  • Conversely, only 5% of training is dedicated to the Heart, which represents the human aspect of policing. This vital training not only enhances community relations and teamwork but also equips officers to handle job stress, promoting both mental and physical health.

  • Recognizing the need for improvement in this area, the Foundation collaborated with the Anaheim Police Department and experts from the University of California, Irvine to create the Train to Serve Program. With every officer set to receive this crucial training over the next two years, it marks a significant step toward a more balanced and holistic approach to law enforcement.

Support the Peer Support Therapy Program

  • The Anaheim Police Department has a Peer Support team that consists of 30 members who provide support to police department personnel who are going through a personal or professional crisis.

  • Police work is incredibly stressful and on almost a daily basis police employees respond to traumatic events, such as death, severe injury, and violence, sometimes dealing with unsavory or destructive people.

  • The cumulative effects of these exposures can have an impact on a person’s physical and mental well-being.

  • A vital component of the Peer Support team are two therapy dogs who, with their trained handlers, provide comfort and support to APD employees who are dealing with these stressful situations.

  • The therapy dogs also provide comfort and support to victims and witnesses of violent crimes to help them through these traumatic events.

  • The Anaheim Police Department Foundation is proud to provide financial support to the care and training of the therapy dogs for the Peer Support team.

Support the Awards and Retirement Ceremony

  • Every year the Anaheim Police Department honors the courageous men and women of the police department for their heroic and lifesaving efforts, outstanding performance, and contributions to the department, and celebrates the well-deserved retirement of their employees who have contributed many years of dedicated service to the police department and the Anaheim community.

  • The Anaheim Police Foundation proudly supports this important event.

  • We would like to personally thank our major sponsors United Parcel Service, Versaterm and Motorola for their support.

Support the End of Watch (EOW) Cycling Team

  • The Anaheim Police Department EOW Cycling team honors California’s fallen officers by cycling from the Police Officer’s State memorial in Sacramento to the Anaheim Police Department’s memorial at the Department’s main station.

  • This 634-mile trek is completed by the team in four days. EOW partners with the Anaheim Police Foundation and the Anaheim Police Survivors and Scholarship Fund to raise funds for families of law enforcement officers killed or severely injured in the line of duty and provide college scholarships for their children.

  • Police departments throughout California and the nation honor our fallen officers during this same time period with similar fund-raising efforts.

  • The Anaheim Police Department Foundation is honored to support this worthy cause.
